Are you new to programming and it seems very confusing because all you can see on the screen doesn’t make sense. Well it is part of the criteria; definitely, you are not the first newbie programmer to be in that situation.
Programming is very simple and easy to learn, it might seem a little sketchy when you just start, because it is a different language what makes it easier is knowing the common terms. Here are common terms in programming you should know:
Syntax are the grammatical rules of programming language, they are combination and sequence of symbols that can be used form a structured program using a given programming language.
The syntax of a programming language defines how to write the statement in a program and the rules that guide the combination of these statement with symbols. Just like in English language we follow a particular rule to form a sentence likewise in programming, syntax indicates those rules. Wrong combination of these statement and symbol will give an invalid output just like forgetting to put a bracket or a slash sign. Proper combination gives a valid result. Your code will not compile or run if your syntax has errors.
Variables are the names of computer memory locations which store values in a computer program. Variable identify a store piece of data. it serves as a container which holds a value, just like in math when you use ‘X’ to represent a particular data. Different value can be assigned to a variable according to how you want it. A simple way variable works storing the score in a computer game or showing the information or details of a person. These data can change easily at any time. But there are some data that cannot change, these data are referred to as constant.
At a point in your programming you will come across statements like ‘if’, ‘true’, false’, ‘if else’, ‘return’ and many others. These statements are referred to as conditional. They enable programmers to create situations that makes the program act differently based on the result you want to derive. They are essentially decision maker while programming.
Objects are used to keep date organised, it provides a structured approach to programming. Objects refers to a combination of related variables, constants, functions, and data structures that can be collectively accessed and managed. For example, an object maybe a user account. The object defined as userAccount may contain classes such as :
- first name
- last name
- email address
Classes are created within objects like in the examples above, The Object userAccount contains classes such as first name, last name, email address, password, etc. Class contain properties and attributes. It defines the variables and implementations of behavior.
